Approaching 50,000 miles on my Tesla Model Y, I thought it would be a great opportunity to share some of my favorite accessories that have significantly enhanced my driving experience. As a family car, we use it for daily driving and long road trips. These accessories have made our journeys more enjoyable, whether you’re a frequent road-tripper or an everyday city driver.

Glare-Free Navigation: The Spigen Matte Screen Protector

One of the first accessories I installed was the Spigen matte screen protector. Typically, I’m not a fan of matte screen protectors on my phone or tablet because they can diminish display quality. However, for the Tesla’s display, which primarily shows navigation and music, the matte finish is a game-changer. It significantly reduces glare, making the screen easier to see, especially on bright summer days.

The Spigen screen protector comes with an installation kit that simplifies the process. Despite the larger display, I had no issues installing it, thanks to the well-designed kit. This accessory has been a permanent fixture since day one, and I barely notice it, but its benefits are as clear as the screen on a bright sunny day!

The Spigen MagSafe Phone Mount

Another fantastic product from Spigen is the MagSafe phone mount for iPhone. Although the Tesla Model Y includes two wireless chargers, I found them underwhelming. My phone rarely gained a significant charge, even on long trips, and viewing navigation was inconvenient because the chargers are located well beneath the screen.

The Spigen mount solves these problems. It attaches securely to the back of the display with an adhesive and allows you to switch between horizontal and portrait orientations easily. This mount not only provides a convenient spot for my phone but also enhances my driving experience by making navigation on longer road trips more accessible. Plus, it supports charging, which is a bonus.

All-Weather Floor Mats

Keeping the car clean is essential, and the all-weather floor mats have been invaluable. These mats, covering the interior and both the front and rear trunks, are easy to clean and incredibly durable. While they aren’t specifically from WeatherTech, they have the same look and feel, and I highly recommend them for anyone looking to protect their Tesla’s interior.

Portable Air Compressor

A portable air compressor is a handy accessory for any vehicle, and it’s particularly useful for our family. We often use it to inflate soccer balls, bike tire, and even small pools for the kids. Its compact size makes it easy to store in the car, ensuring we’re always prepared for any inflation needs, whether on a road trip or at a local park.

Charging Flexibility: Lectron CCS to Tesla Adapter

Every Tesla comes with a J1772 to Tesla adapter but for those who drive long distances frequently, the Lectron CCS to Tesla adapter is a must-have. It provides up to 150kw charging speeds, which is decent for road trips but the key benefit is that it provides access to additional charging options at non-Tesla Supercharger locations that primarily have CCS chargers like EVgo and Electrify America. Anecdotally, this adapter has been particularly useful during our trips to Austin, where we can charge at a friend’s house using their Ford Pro Connect charger.

While it might not be necessary for everyone, having this adapter offers peace of mind and greater flexibility for long-distance travel.

Stay Organized: Console Organizers

Lastly, console organizers have made a significant difference in keeping the car tidy. Before using them, the console was a disorganized black hole. Now, I can easily access items like my garage door opener and gate opener without rummaging through a cluttered space. These inexpensive organizers are simple yet effective in enhancing the overall driving experience.

Conclusion

These accessories have been instrumental in enhancing my Tesla Model Y ownership experience over the past 50,000 miles. While not all of them are essential for every driver, they have certainly made our journeys more enjoyable and convenient.
